More and more of the “Tactical” crowd are using Kydex for their Knife and handgun Sheaths and Holsters.

Kydex is an Acrylic/PVC Thermoplastic that has the features of being highly impact and abrasion resistant. Kydex is a registered trademark of the Kleerdex Company.

The Sheaths are formed by heating the Kydex and forming around the knife.Kydex will maintain the shape of the knife it was formed around. Once the sheath is completed the Kydex sheath will not shrink or crack.

Generally Kydex scabbards alleviate the need for a “keeper strap” as the Kydex holds the knife in most any position including upside down. When you draw a knife from a Kydex scabbard it usually will be a smooth, positive draw with very little drag. Re-sheathing is also quite easy as typically the knife will “lock” into place. Kydex is a solid, rigid material that will not collapse when the knife is not sheathed. In closing I find Kydex to be an efficient, lightweight answer to most of you Knife Sheathing problems.
